Do I need experience to start?
Not at all. We welcome complete beginners as well as experienced practitioners. Our structured curriculum ensures everyone progresses at their own pace.
Do I need to be fit or strong?
No. Jiu-jitsu is for everyone regardless of age, gender, or fitness level. You'll naturally build strength, mobility, and endurance as you train.
What should I wear to my first class?
If you don't yet own a gi, just wear comfortable athletic clothing. We also provide rental gis and laundry services if needed.
What does a typical class look like?
Most classes begin with a short warm-up, then technique instruction and drilling, followed by positional sparring in a controlled way. Full sparring (rolling) usually happens after class or during open mat — a progression that keeps learning safe and effective for all levels.
Do you offer classes for kids?
Yes. We run dedicated kids classes for ages 5–8 and 8–12, each with its own time slots on the weekly schedule.
What language are classes in?
Classes are bilingual. Instruction is primarily in English, as our coaches are international, with Japanese support from local staff so everyone can follow comfortably.
How do belt promotions work? Do I need to compete?
Promotions are based on attendance, consistent effort, and a clear understanding of our belt curriculum — both technical knowledge and safe application. Competition is optional and never required, though we fully support students who choose to compete with tailored training and strategy.
Is sparring safe?
Yes. Sparring is encouraged, always in the safest possible way. We emphasise control, respect, and technique over brute strength, and we don't tolerate anyone who disregards a partner's safety. Because injuries are a leading reason people quit, we prioritise safe, progressive sparring suited to each student.
What are the cleanliness rules?
Always train in a clean gi or rashguard. Good hygiene is essential — fresh uniforms, trimmed nails, and personal cleanliness. Respect for your partners means arriving fresh, clean, and ready to train.
Do you accept visitors or drop-ins?
Yes. We welcome visiting practitioners. A visitor pass can be arranged in advance or at the dojo.
Do you have lockers, showers, and laundry?
Yes. We provide private lockers, showers, and gi/towel laundry services for members who want added convenience.

What makes your dojo different?
We are the first Pedro Sauer Association school in Japan, offering world-class instruction, a safe environment, and a welcoming international culture.
What is your dojo's background?
Our dojo was built by the same team who established GJJ Singapore as one of the most successful martial arts schools in Asia. We've guided students from white to black belt, aged 4 to 70, with a strong safety record and excellent competition results. We're closely affiliated with schools across Australia, the USA, and Europe, so you'll regularly meet world-class practitioners on our mats.
